Transformers Titanium Diecast War Within Optimus Prime

Updated With new pictures.

Damn that's a long name. Anyway, The War Within was actually a series of comic book mini-series written by featuring Generation One characters with brand new pre-Earth designs. I have not read the comics themselves because I am not that big of a comic fan but hey its Optimus Prime so I will chronicle it.

This is Prime's cybertronian vehicle mode on cybertron. It looked sort of like a cross between 4x4 motocross bike, batman's tumbler and a hint of Harley Davidson. The toy still maintains its G1 roots, big red chest and blue legs with spots of yellows on the right places. The wheels looks big and badass. Oh and did I mention that despite the toy's size, it feels rock solid and its really heavy.

I won this on ebay for US$7.50. Items was used but it was a steal. The downside was that it was suppose to come with a stand but the stand was missing. Still trying to get the seller to find me the stand and send it to me. The figure is not very poseable other than the standard 'I look badass with a gun in my hands' pose, you can't really pose complicated actions.

This toy is out of production, so its basically in the rare category. Try scouting Ebay. Amazon still sells this although prices can rich quite high. Ebay is your best bet if you want it cheap.

Transformers Hybrid Style THS-02 G1 Convoy(Optimus Prime)

Don't ask me what hybrid style means because I also have no idea which styles came together to create this amazing collector's item. I do know that it is quite small, smaller than the robotmasters series and also one hard transformer to transform even with my agile fingers.

I really want to say the articulation is amazing. The joints are stiff but yet loose enough to really pose the character well. Paint job is top quality although expect chipping eventually especially the metallic parts. I think I will let the pictures do the talking even though my camera sucks.

Yes a jetpack, it comes with a cool jetpack.

An nice shiny Autobot stand also comes with the THS-02 to
let you do some amazing mid-air poses.

The legendary fan favourite energy axe is also included.
Truly worth every penny spent.

It even comes with the matrix, talk about expert craftsmanship.

Now let's move on to the vehicle mode. The THS-02 comes with the trailer, roller and an assortment of hands and other accessories, very good deal.

Get ready for some more pics!

Alright, the home stretch.

Being a Transfromers collector's must have item, this truly is an amazing piece of work. Its detailed, the articulation is superb, paint job is good although I would prefer it be chip-proof. The THS-02 is sort of like the original G1 Optimus Prime toy but with advance levels in articulation and details and smaller. I have no problem with the size although it is tough transforming it. If you have the Masterpiece MP-04, think of this as the amazing kid brother of the Masterpiece except with an additional roller. But like the Masterpiece, it cost a premium although not as high and its a little hard to find. But if you ever get the chance to buy it, do not hesitate, prices for it soars high. OR you can always drop me a message/email blah blah blah......

P.S. Thanks to allan for pointing out the THS-01 error

Transformers R.I.D Air Attack Optimus Primal

Optimus Primal was never in the R.I.D series. The air attack was original intended for the beast machines line of toys but somehow someone in Hasbro or Takara fcuked it up and ended up deing in the R.I.D series. But anyway, Beast Machines is one of my favourite Transformers cartoon. The 3D was pretty amazing for its time. Character designs were more interesting than what the beast wars had. And the idea of mixing organic components into cybernetic entities was a daring move. And might I add that Beast Machines was also one of the original voices for saving the environment. Let's see some pics.

I like the head, very detailed. Despite it being a Hasbro line product.
Very good job Hasbro. If only you put the same effort into all your other toys...

half-assed?

The animal mode resembles the cartoon series quites closely using almost the same colour palettes. The arms especially gets high praises from me. Unfortunately the same can't be said to the back legs. which looks kind of weird. It looks like, pardon the pun, half-assed effort on Hasbro's part. Monkey mode doesn't do anything much other than look menacing and proud, articulation is stiff but still movable which sometimes scares me because I afraid of using too much strength and breaking the joints.

If all else fails, at least he can still show Megatron the finger.

In the show, the Maximals don't exactly 'transform', instead they sort of morph into their robot mode which fortunately the toy was not able to do or else I would have freaked out. But the toys still transforms although a little practice is needed because the joints are really very stiff. Its not really poseable because only the left arm is articulated. The right arm has the redundant spring punching action built into it, a real turn off. Hasbro seems to like putting spring-loaded punching arms into all the Optimus Prime toys. PLEASE STOP IT! I want 2 articulated arms. Because of this, You can't really do much posing. Really wasted potential. The fingers on the other hand is surprisingly articulated, more so than the Takara Masterpiece Figures. The downside is that all fingers look the same partly because it is required to rotate 180 degrees when 'morphing' to monkey mode.

Overall still a pretty cool toy, its huge, the colours are pretty damn close to the cartoon series, it also has electronic sounds that sounds real good. I just really like the design of the character. Anyone who wants to find one, try online, or you can always post me a message or email me to ask for availability. I'm sure to find you one.

Transformers Movie Premium Class Optimus Prime MA-21

Ladies and mostly gentlemen, I give you the Movie Deluxe Premium Class Optimus Prime.

Why do you see chrome? That's because you are looking at the TakaraTomy version of movie deluxe Prime. Unlike the less than average Hasbro version, TakaraTomy has taken the extra step of painting parts of the toy with chrome. Its not much but I really do like the chrome that was added. I am hoping there will be a fully chromed version. Oh yes, the blade that came with it is way more fantastic then the lackluster energy blaster that came with the hasbro version. More pics below.

I enjoyed watching the Transformers movie when it came out in 2007 and I will watch the sequel when its released in 2009. Hack, I even got the 2 disc special packaging dvd. To all the hardcore G1 fans who still think Michael Bay is the anti-christ for destroying Optimus Prime, enjoy your G1s. More pics.

Vehicle mode really shows off the chrome well. I am cursing myself for not having a better camera to take the pictures with. Overall paint job was good, colours are very vibrant and they have better details than the Hasbro version. I just didn't like the rubber smokestacks on the sides. They are actually made of soft rubber. Don't try to pull too hard on them or they will break off.

As of now in Singapore, I do not know of any shopping malls that carry the TakaraTomy version of Movie Deluxe Prime. DO NOT BUY THE HASBRO VERSIONS, THEY ARE NOT AS GOOD. you are actually paying more for the Hasbro version than the TakaraTomy version. I've seen prices as high as $99.99 for the unimpressive Hasbros. I got my TakaraTomy at a premium $85, that was months ago when they 1st release. Prices should still be between $90 - $100. Contact me at palpmaster@hotmail.com for availability and latest pricing. I will try and find it for you.

Until next Prime.

Transformers Beast Wars TM-SP DX Convoy (Optimus Prime)

As you can see above, the Beast Wars TM-SP DX Convoy or Optimus Primal as it was called on the American Beast Wars.

I never really liked the Beast Wars series cartoons. It was one of the 1st fully 3D cartoon I have ever watched right after Reboot. The story was just your typical good vs evil scenario without human civilization. I just never liked the animal robot idea, until somewhere near the end where Primal saw the original Optimus and changed into a huge hulking robotic animal-like hybrid. Optimus Optimal. Which I will chronicle it later in the future.

The original Beast Wars Primal did not sport a full mouth piece. Instead, it has an opening in the mouth piece that shows the mouth. This DX edition uses the original G1 head design and mixes a little of the Primal's head design and also a little something special which I will be showing you in the pictures below. But first a little on the weapons, Primal doesn't use the energy axe like the original G1 does. Instead he uses curved swords that can be combined to form a dual bladed weapon. Some energy blasters hidden in the arms and back.

See the special head design I was talking about? I have no idea what possessed Primal to have cause this. I missed out most of the Beast Wars Cartoon. But I like it, it looks cool and that skull-headed morning star looks menacing.

Robot Gorilla mode is really fugly. I really hate the mouth area, but to be fair the DX has one of the better looking ape face compared to the other Primal Gorilla modes. The ears stick out like a sore thumb. I would display this as robot mode and never revert it to his gorilla mode.

Now for pricing and availability. I had the rare chance of flying to Japan and bought this back from Akihabara. Cost me about 3700+ yen for the toy. It is available here in Singapore although pricing here will be more expensive. As usual ask me for availability, I might be able to find one for you. Until next time.

Transformers Animated Cybertron Mode Optimus Prime

The latest Transformers Animated series was kinda too kiddie for my taste. I hate that little whining bitch girl. Can't really stand her, bring back Spike and his father and even his wheel-chair friend. I hate that bitch, she thinks she's the lord of the transformers or something with that stupid key of hers. But enough rambling about that, let's move along to another Optimus Prime collection. A note to the readers, I thought Megatron in this animated series was quite impressive. Sort of like Magneto in X men.

Anyway let's have some pics up...

The new Prime design looks fantastic. It still uses the original G1 colours and its still a truck vehicle albeit an alien truck. Its sort of a fusion of the Beast Machines Optimus Primal( another of my favourites, which I will be posting later) and a little influence from the movie Prime. Its hulking and has really powerful looking anatomy. Yes it does looks cartoony but probably because the show was aimed at the new generation of kids who grew up on cutesy pokemon. Thank god Grimlock does not look like Barney.

Poseability wise, its not bad but compared to what my revoltech can do, it still lacks a little something. Might be the rotatable hands and legs of the revoltech that give it the extra stability and cool factor. It still does a mean chopping stance well. I really like the shape of the upper body when he's holding the axe like that.

One thing I notice from the animated series is that his axe actually plays an even more important role in combat, whereas in the original G1 series his energy axe only makes a cameo in one episode and the rest of the time he uses the blaster to shoot Decepticons. He does'nt actually have a blaster in the animated series, just a water hose of some sort. But its still great. kinda explain his great hulking physique in the series, more melee like a warrior less sniping like a coward.

The vehicle mode actually looks close to what it looks like on the cartoon. As usual, the strong G1 influences, the flat nose truck, legs stretch to the back to form the back wheels or in this case tracks, although the signature trademark of how the arms are usually placed in vehicle mode(forearms just under the chest) differs slightly in the Cybertron vehicle. I just don't really like how the axe is stored on the vehicle itself. Kinda out of place and ugly with the hands sticking out like that. But wat do you expect for a mass-produced toy like this.

Overall good toy, a little brute force needed to transform the hands into place, nice poseability, I recommend it for fans of the animated series and longtime hardcore Transformer fans. Pricing range from SGD$26 to $27. Not a whole lot of difference, if you see this in stores or malls just grab one. Its getting hard to find and I've seen it sold out in big toy marts. But anyone needs help finding one can drop me a message.

Kaiyodo Revoltech Convoy(Optimus Prime)

Added new pictures.

First up, the Kaiyodo Revoltech Convoy. One of my favs even though it does not transform. I like it because its poseable. A real fun toy to pose with and looks damn cool.

It looks sort of anime-ish. Great sculpt and paint job although I think the dark greyish part on the hip area, chest window frames and mouth piece could be a little lighter and more shiny like the ones on the legs. The bluish hue is actually more towards the purplish side. Don't get me wrong, I kind of like the purplish blue, very unique. Another thing you will notice is that the shoulders each have its own autobot logo, which I thought was kind of weird. As if the enemy will have difficulty recognizing him as leader of the autobots. The box comes with 3 other inter-changeable hands making it a total of 5. 2 for the left hand and 3 for the right. A blaster that looks just as cool and the matrix of leadership which I thought was only a novelty because the extra hands don't come with the 2 that will hold the leadership matrix properly. But sort of glad that it was included.

A note to readers, the toy does not come with a stand, I just stick it to an autobot symbol which I found and bought. The toy also can't stand like that, I use blu-tack. I really like its simplistic design. It does not have much details but the shape of the toy just has this great anatomy to it.

There is a flaw in the design though. The height of the shoulders do not match up on the horizontal plane, as do the legs. So you will see that when its standing straight the shoulders do not line up and the hip is slightly tilted off to one side. Maybe only my revoltech has the problem or the entire line of revoltech convoy is faulty. I don't know, never bothered to buy another one to check it out and I don't know anyone else who owns one of it. Overall, its not a big problem because the fault disappears once you start posing the figure and it starts looking cool. I recommend it to people who likes figures that can do really expressive poses.

Anybody wants to buy this toy can contact me. I bought mine for SGD$28 which was about a year ago in 2007, but prices have gone up since then. Contact me for availability and latest pricing.

My toy collection, I sell them too.

Now for something a little more relaxing and enjoyable for most guys. The following is a showcase of my toy collection specifically Transformers toys, more specifically Optimus Prime or Convoy as it is known in Japan.

Why Optimus? Well, basically I collect him for what he stands for, freedom and equality for all sentient beings, which basically means anything that has sort of a life force not just humans(selfish self-righteous organisms).

As of 7/12/2008, I have about 42 Optimus Prime figures and toys. These range from the original G1 series right up to the most recent movie and animated series. The number is still increasing and its putting a big hole in my pocket. But I like it, memories like this, last a life time. In this blog, I will try to chronicle all the different Optimus Prime toys that I have. Hopefully 1 per day.

Alright before we proceed, I like to advertise here that I sell toys too. Any of the toys that you like on my blog posts, I will not sell them to you. But I will sell brand new ones if I can find them just drop me an email at palpmaster@hotmail.com. One more thing, you can find a list of available toys I have on ebay.com.sg, search for palpmaster84. I sell at competitive prices so don't be afraid that you will be ripped off by me.
